Ted Malmros has traveled the world. That may seem to you to not have much bearing on the films, the videos, the EPKs, or the commercials he makes. I tell you it does. Through the wide lens of his mind, colored by so many journeys, trips, visions, lights, scents, sounds, and feelings, Ted carries the invisible dreamland of thought to the canvas of moving pictures.

 

Having always had an interest in images since a young age, messing around with super-8 and 16mm cameras, Ted decided to take a professional move in the filmmaking direction when he completed a 2-year degree in Film Studies in Stockholm, Sweden, his place of birth. At around this very same time, his band Shout Out Louds began touring the world, finding their feet in places like Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo, and Düsseldorf. From the touring get-go, Ted had his film camera at hand, capturing these experiences and then posting them for fans to see. He has gone on to produce all Shout Out Louds music videos, including a new series called Discoveries, in which he offers up short clips of touring images set against the backdrop of alternative versions of their songs. In addition to filming his own band, Ted has filmed, directed and edited alternative takes for Lykke Li, as well as producing many a Peter, Bjorn and John music video, including the animated one for Young Folks, for which he was awarded a Swedish Grammy.

 

In the commercial world, Ted has directed, co-directed, edited and made behind-the-scenes films for the likes of Nokia, Doritos, Arbetsförmedlingen, Mitsubishi, and Hitta.se. He has worked both by himself and alongside his brother, Director Tom Malmros. He has worked on both analog and digital formats, is well versed in the land of time-lapse, and is always stretching his mind to find a new way to present his vision through the 116-year-old art of moving pictures. He is an accomplished film editor, as well as, directing, and shooting most everything here for the feast of your eyes.

 

Near future plans for our dear Ted include working with Swedish television on a new series for popular PSL, filming bands in an intimate and refreshing light, a concept conceived by Ted himself. He will continue filming the Discoveries series for Shout Out Louds as they record their fourth studio album. And travel, yes travel, from here to there to everywhere.
